The D&B Garden Show

February 27, 2016 - Debbie Cook, Master Gardener and Certified Arborist, was joined by Matt Perkins to talk about fruit trees. Matt is a Certified Arborist, tree inspector and Certified Nursery Professional.

Matt shares some of the things you may want to look for when buying a bare root fruit tree. Fruit trees should be thoroughly inspected and strategically planted. Have you thought about buying bare root fruit trees online? Are you wondering what variety you should purchase? Matt suggests visiting the University of Idaho, Parma Research and Extension Center - Pomology Program website here. This site will tell you what kind of fruit to grow in your area and how to do it best.

Matt and Debbie discuss the particulars about planting a bare root tree. Listen in to hear the details. When buying a tree in a container make sure you pull the tree out of the pot so you can inspect the roots to make sure the tree is not pot-bound. Find out what you can do if you end up with a pot-bound tree.

Are your cherry trees producing very little fruit? Do you know when the best time of year to prune them is? Are your Peony plants showing signs of powdery mold? Be sure to listen in for all the answers to these questions and all the valuable information on fruit trees.
